Composer:
Claude Debussy

Conductor:
Simon Rattle

Background: Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic perform a collection of Debussy's most original and popular orchestral works, recorded live at the Philharmonie. A bonus rarity is three of the piano preludes, newly transcribed for orchestra by the British composer Colin Matthews.

One of Rattle's greatest loves is the unique colour and form of French music, particularly at the turn of the 20th century. Indeed, he counts Debussy as one of his favourite composers, so it is not surprising that this disc is full of passion, strength and languid sensuousness.
