Background: These works are some of the most challenging in the flautist's repertoire, displaying the full capabilities of the instrument. Khachaturian’s concerto is a work of considerable charm. Originally written for the violin in 1940, it has since been transcribed for flute, with a cadenza by Jean-Pierre Rampal. Also on this recording is Ibert’s challenging Flute Concerto and a solo piece which has many similarities with Debussy’s Syrinx, presenting a melodic and mysterious sound-scape. |
