Background: Stanislaw Moniuszko was the leading Polish opera composer of the 19th century and a younger contemporary of Chopin. As Moniuszko's finest opera, The Haunted Manor is reckoned the greatest of all 19th-century Polish opera scores. Its main assets include imaginative harmony and melodic inventiveness of great sophistication.. This recording was made by the Teatr Wielki, the Polish National Opera of Warsaw, following a series of performances in Warsaw. The native cast, orchestra, chorus and conductor combine to produce a truly authentic and powerful recording. |
