Background: Bajazet was composed in Vivaldi's later years and is one of his most powerful dramas. It was written to Agostino Piovene's famous libretto (the same that inspired Handel's Tamerlano) and depicts with poignant intensity the tragic end of the Great Turkish Sultan overthrown by his rival Tamerlan. |
