Background: This recording of A Midsummer Night’s Dream combines Mendelssohn’s incidental music with the spoken dialogue which it was originally intended to accompany, making this a unique recording project. Mendelssohn wrote the overture to the drama Ruy Blas in just three days.

It was intended as an independent concert overture and is numbered among the more significant of Mendelssohn’s dramatic compositions.
