Background: The original French version of Donizetti’s Lucie de Lammermoor was performed regularly until the end of the 19th Century where it fell into neglect by publishers and disappeared from the catalogue. The original manuscripts have since been lost and this score has been reconstructed from Paris Opera library archives. The title role in the opera is taken by the breathtaking Natalie Dessay, who ably demonstrates why she is widely regarded as the most stunning coloratura in the world. The role of Edgar Ravenswood is taken by tenor superstar Roberto Alagna, who once again delivers a remarkable performance. |
