Background: Il Diván del Tamarit is a recording based on Garcia Lorca’s last poem of the same name, written just before his tragic death and considered to be his most intimate and secret work on the theme of love and absence. The music, composed by Vicente Pradal, is refined, elegant and pure, just like the poetry. With the assistance of his ensemble he has succeeded in putting a difficult and hermetic series of poems to music. The Diván is a form of poetry inherited from the Arabic & Andalusian tradition - Tamarit is the name they gave to what later became the Lorcas’ garden in Granada. Two female and two male voices, including that of Vicente Pradal, and a chorus, interact and give flesh to Garcia Lorca’s poignant verse, accompanied by piano and percussions, a saxophone and a double bass. |
