Background: This major two-part documentary film on the life and work of Giuseppe Verdi, is presented by Mark Elder, former Music Director of English National Opera, and a renowned conductor of Verdi’s music. Stunning location film from Italy and other elements including quotations from Verdi’s own correspondence are interspersed with highlights from some of Verdi’s most popular operas, sung in Italian and specially staged by American director David Alden.

The film, made in 1994, features actors Bob Peck as the voice of Giuseppe Verdi, and Juliet Stevenson as the voice of Giuseppina Strepponi.
