Background: French pianist Francois-Rene Duchable won the prestigious Queen Elizabeth prize in Brussels at the age of 16 in 1968, since which time he has performed at many festivals and with the top conductors. In 2003, he announced his disillusionment with the concert scene, culminating in the symbolic destruction of his Steinway.

This he ceremoniously pushed from a cliff top. From autumn 2003 he intended to scale back his music making, strapping a portable keyboard to his bicycle and pedalling around France giving impromptu performances.
