Background: Although this album was recorded at the 2006 Lugano Festival, it is a Shostakovich disc with the main work being a concerto rather than chamber music. In the concerto, Martha Argerich teams up with the outstanding young trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana under Alexander Verdernikov.

Martha Argerich is joined in the other Shostakovich works by some familiar collaborators: Virgin Classics artist Renaud Capucon, cellist Mischa Maisky and pianist Lilya Zilberstein to name but a few.
