Background: Like his symphonies, the Rachmaninov piano concertos span the entire period during which he was active as a composer. The First dates from 1890-91 when he was in his late 'teens and the Fourth from 1926 when he had virtually given up composition. As well as the Concertos this set includes the two sets of brilliant Preludes and the ever-popular Prelude in C sharp minor. Agustin Anievas was born in 1934 and is a world renowned American pianist, specializing in the works of Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninov. He made his world professional debut in 1952 and later attended the Juilliard School of Music. He was the winner of the first International Mitropoulos Competition for Pianists in 1958 and laureate of Belgium's Queen Elizabeth competition. |
