Background: Amor profano is the follow-up project to the spectacular album Amor sacro that the soprano Simone Kermes recorded with Andrea Marcon and his Venice Baroque Orchestra. Amor profano presents arias from Vivaldi’s lesser-known or virtually unknown operas and have been especially chosen for the charismatic, dazzling voice of Simone Kermes. Amor sacro received highest critical acclaim worldwide, with journalists using superlatives to express their praise. The critic of The Guardian judged the recording to be 'the most exciting disc I’ve heard in ages', Le Monde de la Musique considered Kermes 'an ideal interpreter of these pieces', while Stereoplay in Germany stated, 'Marcon’s Venetian Baroque ensemble really made sparks fly'. |
