Background: Mikhail Pletnev’s Beethoven project is a large-scale recording venture that is unprecedented in his career - his first Beethoven Piano Concertos and Symphonies recordings. Pletnev recorded the five Piano Concertos live with the same orchestra over two days during the 2006 Beethoven Festival in Bonn.

All of these musicians lived with and prepared this project in order to be able to record it in such a concentrated time span. The Beethoven project is very close to his heart: 'For me Beethoven is like a god. I worship him, and I admire his music. It always produces very deep emotions in me when I’m conducting it or playing it on the piano.'
