Background: A reflection of his musical tastes, Pahud's repertoire is unusually eclectic (as his discography demonstrates). On this disc of orchestral works by the Haydn brothers (Josef and Michael) and Leopold Hofmann (whose Flute Concerto was for long wrongly ascribed to Josef Haydn), Pahud 'plays with sweet, gleaming tone, alluring phrasing and, especially in the concerto finales, an infectious sense of fun'. Pahud and his excellent Berlin colleagues seem also to enjoy themselves in the Haydn Scherzandi, where the flute plays only in the trios of the minuets. |
