Background: The Academy of Ancient Music is directed by Christopher Hogwood who, among others, led the English revival in the use of authentic instruments and performing styles. Originally released in the early 1980s on Decca's L'Oiseau Lyre label, and remaining in the Decca catalogue for many years, this was produced during the 'renaissance' of the baroque era. Each of the four concertos has a different soloist, a decision believed to match Vivaldi's original practice more closely than the usual modern allocation to a single player. |
