Background: This unique collection of classic guitar concertos demonstrates the collective talents of the extraordinary Spanish-born Romero family: the father, Celedonio, and his three sons, Celin, Pepe and Angel. Not only is the collection headed by Angel's lyrical interpretation of the celebrated Concierto de Aranjuez, but coupled with it is the Concierto Andaluz for four guitars, composed in 1967 by Joaquin Rodrigo specifically for the Romeros quartet and recorded by Mercury Living Presence that same year. The collection is completed by the popular guitar transcriptions of Vivaldi's solo and double mandolin concertos and the quadriple violin concerto, with Celedonio performing the solo work, and Pepe and Celin the double concerto. |
