Background: This pair of CDs provides a generous collection of Stravinsky’s chamber works and small-scale orchestral works. The music ranges from pieces for solo clarinet and rare pieces such as the Septet to the Octet and the Concerto for Two Piano, as well as some of the well-known works for chamber orchestra such as 'Dumbarton Oaks' and the Danses concertantes. A group of larger-scale but rarely heard works include the Four Études for orchestra and the even rarer set of four short orchestral pieces known as the Norwegian Moods. Almost the entire programme is digital, with the exception of the two Suites for Orchestra. |
