Background: This recording of one of Mozart’s operas, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, was made in 1990 after a series of stage performances. The recording uses the critical edition from the Neue Mozart Ausgabe. It also includes a march in Act One which was recorded for the first time.

Christopher Hogwood and The Academy of Ancient Music made many recordings of Mozart for Decca’s L’Oiseau-Lyre label during the 1980s and 1990s including this period instrument performance of Die Entführung aus dem Serail.
