Background: German composer Paul Hindemith was one of the most prolific composers of his generation. One of Hindemith’s important groups of compositions is the series of 7 Kammermusik pieces, works which imitate the Baroque concerto style but in which modern elements such as jazz and new tonal procedures are introduced.

Each work uses a different chamber ensemble in order to best throw into relief the qualities of the individual solo instrument, and strong rhythmical elements feature prominently.
