Background: Adrian Boult was a lifelong advocate of the music of Vaughan Williams and the greatest interpreter of his music. This, the first complete recorded cycle of the nine symphonies, dates from the years 1952–58. While Boult would later re-record the symphonies, these first recordings retain a special place in the history of recording.
