Background: Warner Classics are proud to present the debut release from Daniel Barenboim and his ground-breaking West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. A DVD of over 170 minutes in length is included in the package. Founded in 1999 the orchestra is based in Seville where Muslims, Christians and Jews have traditionally lived in peace for seven centuries. Daniel Barenboim, the Argentinean / Israeli conductor and pianist, and his friend the late Edward Said, Palestinian writer and critic, established the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and Workshop as an opportunity for young musicians from Middle Eastern countries to combine musical study with dialogue and reflection on the critical Israeli-Palestinian situation. |
