Background: The production of a new Ring at the Bayreuth Festival is an event that takes place every six years. Bayreuth recordings of the complete cycle are rare; this is only the third official audio recording and the second filmed version. Originally released in 1993 and 1994, this is one of the all-time highlights of the Teldec catalogue.

The production was also filmed in high definition television. A bonus DVD of highlights enhances the presentation of one of the most desirable Ring cycles in the catalogue.
