Background: Bruckner began to compose the Symphony No.6 in A major in 1879 and completed it two years later. It is generally considered to be the most neglected of his symphonic works. At the time of its composition, Bruckner was having a run of good luck. His work was also going well. Thus Bruckner's Sixth Symphony seems to reflect the positive circumstances under which it was written. Uncharacteristically, the composer did not revise it. |
