Background: Leonard Bernstein was above all a performer. Not just as a conductor, but an all-round personality. His charisma bewitched all who encountered him. Inevitably, that person in its composing guise was drawn to writing for the theatre, and this disc presents a succinct overview of this aspect of his art.

The Japanese conductor Yutaka Sado was Bernstein’s last pupil and worked with him for ten years. He has been Principal Conductor of L’Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux since 1993 and has been instrumental in its increasing success.
