Background: This 2CD set of four Dvorak Tone Poems includes The Wild Dove, one of his most evocative tone poems, about a widow who poisons her first husband. The Noon Witch is among the composer's last orchestral worksand the Golden Spinning Wheel is another grisly tale, about a King who falls in love with a peasant girl. Nikolaus Harnoncourt first conducted the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1975 and quickly became one of the orchestra's most popular guest conductors. |
