Background: This CD presents the exceptional Canadian pianist performing remarkable works from the modern age. Gould was the first young pianist of the post-war era to champion the music of the Second Viennese School in concert halls: in 1953 he recorded Arnold Schönberg’s Piano Concerto op.42 for the CBC. Gould also recorded Alban Berg’s Piano Sonata op.1 in 1953 - his first recording for the Hallmark label and one that is considered among his showpieces to this very day. Gould considered Anton Webern to be one of the most important modern age composers: his article A Consideration Of AntonWebern was an attempt to explain the difficult music of the 20th century - and arouse audiences’ enthusiasm for such music! |
