Background: Vivaldi Concerti da Camera features chamber concertos written by Vivaldi for orphans being given music lessons at Venetian orphanages (CD1). The composer was able to rely on the talents of numerous young musicians for the performance of his original and experimental orchestrations: these musicians played unusual, sometimes extraordinary instruments like salmo, violini in tromba marina, viole all’inglese and various others. CD2 presents a selection of flute sonatas written in London by the Italian composers Corelli, Barsanti, Geminiani and Veracini. These remarkable works were recorded by Ensemble Il Gardino Armonico at the Castello della Manta (Piemont) in 1988. The ensemble was formed in 1985 and is made up of musicians well-versed in authentic instrument performing practice. The ensemble makes regular guest appearances at the most prestigious music festivals - both in Italy and abroad. |
