Background: Acclaimed by audiences, critics and fellow musicians, Dong-Hyek Lim has quickly established himself as one of the finest pianists of his generation. Dong-Hyek’s third recording on EMI Classics sees him explore Johann Sebastian Bach's seminal Goldberg Variations along with the Chaconne from Partita No.2 for violin, arranged by Busoni. Dong-Hyek's stunning musicianship and early critical acclaim saw him become the youngest pianist ever to sign a recording contract with EMI Classics, in May 2001. His debut album of Chopin, Schubert, and Ravel under the 'Martha Argerich Presents' series, released in June 2002, received the 'Diapason d'Or' award in France. The magazine Diapason described him as '… the most deeply gifted young musician we have heard for a long time, full of maturity, commanding absolute authority, and at the same time with an elegance which one can only find amongst the chosen…an extraordinary talent… [with] his ability to square the circle between expressivity, directness, grandeur and simplicity.' September 2002. His second recording featuring Chopin's B minor sonata and other piano works, released in 2004, was awarded the 'Choc' Prize by Le Monde de la Musique. |
