Background: Sakari Oramo and the CBSO follow up their distinctive and critically acclaimed release of Sibelius Symphony No.5 with this CD that includes the same composer's first and third symphonies as weel as what is undoubtedly his most famous work - Finlandia.

The melodies and orchestral scoring of Sibelius's first symphony show that the composer was heavily influenced by Tchaikovsky, Bruckner and Berlioz. By the time he wrote the third symphony, however, Sibelius had begun to create a sound that Beethoven and Schumann would have recognised.
