Background: Recorded in the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, in April 1990, this is Gergiev's classic stage performance of Mussorgsky's great epic Boris Godunov. Robert Lloyd, the distinguished British bass, was invited to sing the title role and was supported by a premiere cast of Russian singers. It is also the production that famously restored Mussorgsky's original orchestration, rather than adopting the then more familiar Rimsky-Korsakov edition. This new DVD will present Boris Godunov for the first time in 5.1 DTS surround sound (in addition to LPCM stereo), and subtitles in no less than six languages will also be included. |

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: PAL format / Sound Format: 5.1 DTS Surround Sound LPCM Stereo / Duration: 210 minutes - Penguin Guide 4 star 'musically it would be hard to imagine a finer performance, even though the recording balance sometimes has voices too distant and unrelated to close-up pictures' |
